MAPROM GmbH is one of Europe's leading suppliers of promotional textiles. Up to 150,000 refined textiles leave the company in Höxter every day. In the fall of 2024, a modern AutoStore® warehouse went into operation in the nearby Steinheim-Bergheim industrial park. With an area of around 2,800 m², it can accommodate 42,000 containers and is equipped with 58 robots.
When the warehouse was planned, safety was the top priority. The aim was to ensure the long-term availability of the textiles while protecting staff, goods and the warehouse. However, the high storage density and the large number of electrical components pose significant fire risks that need to be minimized.
The decision was made in favor of a holistic fire protection solution from a single source. This includes an innovative fire prevention system, highly sensitive early fire detection and a manufacturer-independent, integrative hazard management system. The oxygen reduction system for active fire prevention plays a central role in the solution. Conventional water-based fire protection solutions were out of the question due to the potential consequential damage caused by the extinguishing agent – the innovative concept instead relies on preventive safety and maximum efficiency.
RISK ANALYSIS
Fire risks arise from the stored goods, which are highly flammable, and from the electrical components necessary for automated storage. These can be caused by defects and overheating of electric motors, for example. The compact storage increases the risk of serious fire damage.

SOLUTION
The fire protection solution was developed specifically for the MAPROM warehouse. The TITANUS® aspirating smoke detection system ensures that fires, such as a smoldering cable fire, are detected as early as possible. The OxyReduct® oxygen reduction system actively prevents fires from spreading: by the controlled introduction of nitrogen, the oxygen content in the protected area is reduced to such an extent that a fire cannot start or spread.
The warehouse's security-related systems are fully integrated into the VisuLAN® hazard management system. With its user-friendly interface, it enables centralized monitoring of all systems, maximizing transparency and effectively minimizing potential security risks.
