Lifts are usually housed in lift shafts which, depending on the type of building, extend from the basement to the roof of the building. Lift shafts fulfil various functions, such as providing an unrestricted connection between several floors, soundproofing the lift drives and stabilizing the building. High demands are placed on lift systems in terms of fire protection so as not to endanger safety in the lift: this applies to the health of people as well as to the safety of the goods being transported. Lifts are also considered a high-risk maintenance application where appropriate safety standards are required to reduce the risk of injury to service technicians.
In order to meet these requirements, we at WAGNER develop specific fire protection solutions to protect people and infrastructure.
RISK ANALYSIS
In the event of a fire, chimney and piston effects in the lift shaft promote the spread of heat, smoke and toxic gases, which can spread rapidly through the floors. In the case of the chimney effect, the vertical shafts and the shaft ventilation of the lift systems promote the described spread; the piston effect promotes the spread through the movement of the lift cabin itself and the resulting pressure change in the lift shaft. Lift systems also have a large number of electrical cables. If electrical cables are damaged or faulty, smouldering or cable fires can occur. The large number of moving parts can also lead to defects, overheating and, in the worst case, fire.
Particularly challenging: in the event of a fire, an lift is generally not automatically shut down. People can still be transported and are therefore in acute danger of death. The difficult accessibility of the lift shafts makes it harder to maintain all the components inside. They are therefore subject to high levels of dust and dirt.

BETTER SOLUTIONS IN FIRE PROTECTION
Very early fire detection, as made possible by the systems of our TITANUS® product family, provides the decisive time advantage that can save lives. The earlier a fire is detected, the faster suitable countermeasures can be initiated and greater damage can be prevented.
TITANUS® aspirating smoke detectors are used in numerous lift systems and lift shafts worldwide and set new standards with their reliable early fire detection. Our early fire detection systems are installed outside the lift shaft. This means that they are easily accessible for maintenance purposes at all times without having to interrupt the operation of the lift system. Our aspirating smoke detectors comply with the relevant safety standards to reduce the risk of injury to service technicians.
BENEFITS
Very early and reliable fire detection for the earliest possible countermeasures to be taken.
Proven fire pattern recognition for detecting deceptive scenarios.
Maximum interference immunity thanks to patented air flow monitoring.
Easy accessibility enables maintenance without interrupting operation and quick diagnostics without technical aids.
Graduated product portfolio and simple retrofitting and conversion when requirements change.
Can be used in different monitoring areas and various detector variants with an extensive range of accessories.
Audits by UL, FM and VdS as well as worldwide certifications prove compliance with the highest safety standards.
National standards and guidelines for fire detection in lift systems must be taken into account. If there are no legally binding regulations, the project planning of fire detectors in lift systems is generally based on existing guidelines for other applications (room monitoring, monitoring of high-bay warehouses).
I am looking forward to your project.
