Groupe Robert

Innovative fire protection for Groupe Robert’s cold storage facility

To meet the increasing demands of cold chain logistics, Groupe Robert, a leading third-party logistics provider, has expanded its infrastructure with a state-of-the-art refrigerated and frozen warehouse in Varennes, Quebec. Designed for the efficient and secure storage of temperature-sensitive goods such as fresh and frozen produce, the facility features high-density storage and automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS).

Fire protection is a key challenge in such environments. To reduce fire risks while ensuring uninterrupted operations, Groupe Robert implemented WAGNER's OxyReduct® oxygen reduction system and TITANUS® early fire detection system in their two storage areas. These advanced solutions provide reliable protection, prevent fire hazards and maintain product integrity by eliminating smoke contamination.

RISK ANALYSIS

Minimizing fire risks in automated cold storage

Automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) pose electrical fire risks, especially in a dense storage environment. The presence of flammable packaging materials like cardboard and shrink-wrap foil increases the fire hazard. Traditional fire protection methods, such as sprinklers, pose the risk of product contamination.

PROTECTION GOALS

Ensuring business continuity

  • Preventing fire outbreaks in warehouse areas
  • Protecting goods from fire and smoke contamination
  • Ensuring uninterrupted operations and supply chain reliability

SOLUTION

Oxygen reduction and early fire detection for maximum safety

To mitigate fire risks, WAGNER implemented an OxyReduct® system that continuously reduces oxygen levels to below ignition thresholds: 14.4% in the refrigerated warehouse and 13.9% in the deep-freeze warehouse. The active fire prevention system reduces the risk of fire ignition to a minimum. Additionally, TITANUS TOP·SENS ® provides highly sensitive smoke detection, enabling the earliest possible fire detection, even in extremely low temperatures and with the highest false alarm immunity. Together, these systems provide maximum protection without the drawbacks of conventional fire suppression methods.
