Resilience thanks to fire protection – a plus for insurance companies

According to the Allianz Risk Barometer 2025, business interruptions are among the greatest business risks. Fires are one of the main causes of this, with consequences that can sometimes threaten the very existence of a company. In Germany alone, major fires cause billions of dollars in property damage and consequential losses every year. Most affected companies do not survive such an event economically. Insurance offers protection, but it requires effective prevention. Effective fire protection is therefore not only a technical obligation, but also a strategic prerequisite for insurability and long-term business security.

Insurance begins with prevention – fire protection is a corporate responsibility

Insurance covers damage, but not operational capability. In an emergency, there remains a residual risk that is often underestimated. Insurers are increasingly assessing risks in a holistic manner and from the following perspectives:

  • Underinsurance
  • Liability periods in the policy too short
  • Supply chain disruptions
  • Staff shortages
  • Loss of sales markets

More than two-thirds of companies file for bankruptcy after a major fire. Preventive measures such as fire prevention through oxygen reduction can prevent this and strengthen resilience. This allows both entrepreneurs and insurers to look to the future with confidence.

Preventing fires: better than fighting fires

“For effective firefighting, experts currently recommend the installation of a stationary oxygen reduction system coupled with an area-wide smoke aspiration system/detection fire alarm system.”

Working together for the optimal solution

Customized fire protection solutions and individual consultation

As an innovation leader, we offer globally consistent, tailor-made fire protection solutions from a single source. We provide advice at an early stage – for example, for new buildings or modified storage concepts and develop solutions that minimize risks, improve insurability, and reduce premiums.

Our experts are familiar with technology and regional standards and coordinate projects individually and proactively. This allows us to balance safety, costs, and insurance requirements – for an all-around optimal solution.

Tests and collaboration for the highest safety standards

In our fire laboratory, we carry out tests as required to find the optimal fire protection solution for each individual case. For more extensive testing, we also use specialized external testing facilities. One example: for KETTLER Alu-Rad GmbH, we conducted extensive tests to determine a safe solution for a high-bay warehouse with up to 50,000 e-bikes, including partially charged batteries.

By working with regional and international associations, our solutions always comply with the latest legal requirements. We combine global expertise with regional know-how – for the highest safety standards
