Impressions, milestones, moments

MILESTONES IN OUR HISTORY

From engineering office to international system manufacturer

The history of WAGNER began in a basement at home. Werner Wagner, a newly qualified electrical engineer, used his mother's start-up capital to found an engineering firm. With technical expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and a keen sense of market demand, he laid the foundation for future success.

A major milestone in this regard was the first major contract in 1982: installation of security systems for the Gorleben interim nuclear storage facility, consisting of outdoor surveillance (detection), video surveillance with lighting, access control, and alarm management system.
The sophisticated security concept proved convincing: even a simulated break-in by a GSG-9 unit was unsuccessful. The system worked flawlessly. This contract put WAGNER on the map nationwide – and marked the beginning of a successful development with an order volume of 3 million German marks.

1976 Founding of the company Dipl.-Ing. Werner Wagner founds the engineering firm “Werner Wagner, Alarm- und Fernmeldetechnik” (Werner Wagner, alarm and telecommunications technology) in Winsen (Aller).

1982 First major contract Concept development and implementation for the construction of security facilities for the Gorleben interim nuclear storage facility – contract volume DM 3 million.

1985 Development of fire detectors WAGNER develops a completely new fire protection solution for one of Germany's largest data centers at the time and also takes care of its implementation.

1986 First aspirating smoke detector WAGNER develops the first aspirating smoke detector for early fire detection.

FROM IDEA TO INNOVATION

Development of WAGNER systems

Sometimes it takes a special moment to break new ground.

1985 was such a moment: an incident at the data center of the German Savings Banks Association showed that conventional smoke detectors had reached their limits. Werner Wagner recognized the problem – and had an idea that changed everything. He developed a detection unit that detects fires right where they start: at the sensitive IT equipment.
With the first aspirating smoke detector, presented at the Security trade show, WAGNER set a new standard in early fire detection – and laid the foundation for a new era in preventive fire protection.

In the early 1990s, Werner Wagner came across an innovative extinguishing method from Switzerland: nitrogen as a natural extinguishing agent. He was fascinated by the idea – and brought it to Germany. This marked the beginning of the next stage of development.

The cornerstone for the next innovation was laid in 1998: an article about nitrogen generation in laboratories inspired him to develop a completely new technology – oxygen reduction. After intensive research and numerous tests, the time had come in 2004: with the market launch of OxyReduct® and VdS approval, WAGNER once again set new standards – this time in active fire prevention.
