The FirExting® extinguishing system ensures highly efficient fire extinguishing in small parts storage systems. The homogeneous distribution of extinguishing gas in the protected area is ensured by the specially developed FirExting® N2 diffuser, which achieves an even concentration of the extinguishing agent and rapid inertization. Hundreds of vertical storage lift systems are already reliably protected by the N2 diffusers, which are mostly installed vertically. Thanks to the horizontal installation of the diffusers, use in paternoster racks is also possible – and now officially recognized by VdS.

Vertical storage lift systems and circulating storage systems (paternoster racks) allow for the compact storage of small parts, which is advantageous for optimal space utilization and efficient storage processes. However, compact, nested storage of sensitive, lightweight parts in storage boxes, coupled with limited space for extinguishing nozzles, poses a particular challenge for fire protection with integrated fire extinguishing systems. WAGNER offers an excellent solution: combining a FirExting® inert gas fire extinguishing system with a FirExting® N2 diffuser meets even the most demanding requirements.
In the event of a fire, this solution uses precisely integrated N2 diffuser pipes, which have been specially developed and patented for extinguishing systems in small parts storage systems. These pipes ensure the rapid and even distribution of nitrogen (IG-100), the extinguishing gas, throughout the entire storage system, including between storage levels. The pipes fit seamlessly into the structure, enabling the entire storage area to be flooded effectively with the residue-free, non-destructive extinguishing gas. In the event of an incident, the stored goods are protected from fire spread and extinguishing agent damage. Thanks to patented technology that gently introduces the extinguishing gas, small parts are not stirred up, and both the stored goods and the automated system remain intact.
The integrated retention flooding provides an additional benefit: even in the event of a large leak, it allows enough time for the protective atmosphere to be maintained to reliably prevent reignition. In the worst-case scenario, this allows the affected storage system to be quickly returned to service.
This concept applies not only to vertical storage lift systems but also to vertical circulation storage systems. Due to the drive design, the diffuser pipes are installed horizontally here. This solution has been tested several times and was recently verified by VdS through full flooding with concentration measurement. The result is an extension of the VdS approval.
